Teen found with more than five pounds of marijuana in Western North Carolina, charged: Sheriff

JEFFERSON, N.C. (WJZY) – A teenager was arrested after being found with a variety of drugs, including more than five pounds of marijuana, according to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 7, an officer was patrolling in Jefferson when he saw a vehicle with several traffic violations.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Joshua Smith Cordoba, 18, of Catawba. Authorities said he was driving with an indefinitely suspended license.

The officer searched the vehicle and found three concealed handguns, a large sum of money, more than five pounds of marijuana, a bag of mushrooms, and several items of drug paraphernalia.

Córdoba was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance
  • Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Marijuana
  • Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
  • Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance
  • Possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
  • carry a concealed weapon
  • Driving with a revoked license (no problems)
  • Resisting a public official
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into the Ashe County Detention Center and given a $40,000 secured bond.
