Texas softball earns first overall seed in 2024 NCAA Tournament

Despite falling to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Softball championship game on Saturday, Texas softball still secured the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

The Longhorns (47-7, 23-4 Big 12) are the top favorites in the postseason softball tournament, as revealed on the Road to the Women’s College World Series selection show, for the first time in school history. That earned them the opportunity to host a regional meet, and potentially a Super Regional, in Austin.

Texas earned the number one seed over Oklahoma, who was selected as the tournament’s second overall seed. The two teams went 2-2 against each other this season, with the Longhorns winning two games against the Sooners at home.

Texas wide receiver Reese Atwood was named Big 12 Player of the Year, as the program had a player win the award for the first time since Taylor Thom won it in 2014. Coach Mike White was also named Coach of the Big 12 year for the first time in his career.
