Four law enforcement officers killed in a shooting at a residence in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Eight law enforcement officers were shot and four died after a shooting at a home in Charlotte, North Carolina, where they were attempting to serve a court order.

On Monday, April 29, around 1:30 pm local time, members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force responded to the 5000 block of Galway Avenue in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant against an individual for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. .

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed in a statement shared on Facebook that three members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were killed by gunfire, as well as CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer, who had served in the North Tryon Division for six years.

While speaking during a press conference, CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings confirmed that officers were met with gunfire as they approached the individual at the residence.

Jennings confirmed that officers returned fire and that the individual “was later pronounced deceased in the front yard of the residence.”

Another person then fired more shots from inside the residence. The house was cleared after a “long standoff” and Jennings confirmed there were “two more people inside.” The two were later taken to the police station as persons of interest.

“Today is an absolutely tragic day for the city of Charlotte and for the policing profession,” Jennings said during the news conference. “Today we lost some heroes. Who are just trying to keep our community safe.”

The CMPD paid tribute to the shot law enforcement officers in a Facebook statement. “Today, we tragically lost three members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in the line of duty. “The heroic actions of these officers are a testament to the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day. Today, some of our colleagues made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and security of our community. We are grateful for the bravery shown by all agents. and abundant responses from our neighboring agencies,” the statement added.

Police later confirmed that Eyer, who was recently named Officer of the Month for April, had died. “Officer Joshua Eyer passed away tonight from his injuries after being shot in the line of duty this afternoon while he was assisting other officers with the arrest of a suspect,” a post was shared on Facebook. and x (formerly known as Twitter) read.

“Officer Eyer faithfully served the CMPD’s North Tryon Division for six years and was a member of the 178th Recruit Class. President Joe Biden paid tribute in a statement shared through the White House website. “Earlier today, four brave law enforcement officers, including a Deputy U.S. Marshal, died in the line of duty. They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and went into harm’s way to protect us. We mourn them and their loved ones. And we pray for the recovery of the brave officers who were injured,” it said.
