Third-seeded Tennessee softball lines up with Alabama in potential NCAA Super Regional matchup

Tennessee softball earned the third overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Softball Tournament on Sunday, setting up a potential matchup with a rival in the Super Regionals.

The Lady Vols are lined up to host No. 14 Alabama in the Knoxville Super Regional, provided both programs win their respective regional matchups.

Tennessee went 2-1 in its only series with the Crimson Tide this season, leading 5-0 and 2-0 before falling 1-0 in the final matchup of the three games in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Lady Vols pitchers Karlyn Pickens and Payton Gottshall combined to pitch 21 innings, striking out 14 batters and allowing 10 hits.

First, Tennessee must overcome its regionals in Virginia, Miami (Ohio) and Dayton, which the Lady Vols will host at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville. The Alabama region includes Clemson, Southeast Louisiana and USC Upstate.
